After almost 4 years of serious drama, Microsoft has finally finished the entire Activision Blizzard lawsuit saga.
In the end, Microsoft agreed to pay around $250 million to settle the last major lawsuit connected to the Activision Blizzard acquisition. That basically means the entire multi-year legal battle is finally over.
Just as a reminder; Swedish pension fund AP7 claimed that Activision was sold too quickly, and that Bobby Kotick rushed the deal to protect himself during the massive scandals inside the company. Microsoft bought Activision Blizzard for nearly $69 billion! Insane number! To this day it’s still one of the biggest gaming acquisitions ever.
For years they were blocked by the FTC, UK regulators, Sony, cloud gaming concerns, monopoly arguments, and many other issues. In the end they still got through, but only after a massive amount of legal battles and different compromises.
Community reactions are still mixed; because some people think Xbox became much stronger, Game Pass is getting massive franchises, and maybe they will even revive old IPs. While others say the industry is becoming way too centralized and that Microsoft is basically buying half of the gaming industry. Layoffs and price increases became worse after the acquisition.
After regulatory wars, multiple lawsuits, Sony vs Xbox drama, FTC chaos, and 4 years of nonstop fighting... MICROSOFT HAS FINALLY FULLY FINISHED THE ACTIVISION DEAL!
The gaming industry literally isn’t the same after this, and Microsoft is finally free.
