Insomniac Games offered fans their most detailed look yet at Marvel’s Wolverine during Sony’s latest State of Play presentation, unveiling an extended gameplay segment from the highly anticipated PlayStation 5 exclusive.
The footage follows Logan as he investigates a lead involving a group of cybernetically enhanced enemies responsible for abducting the Morlocks, including the mutant Leech. The mission begins with Wolverine using stealth tactics to quietly eliminate several opponents, but the action quickly escalates into intense close-quarters combat. Armed with his adamantium claws, Logan tears through enemies in a series of brutal attacks while building up a rage meter that appears to enhance his combat effectiveness.
The gameplay further highlights the game's mature and violent tone, with Wolverine delivering relentless melee attacks and showcasing the raw brutality fans expect from the character.
Later in the mission, Jean Grey joins the action as she pursues the same objective: rescuing the captured Morlocks. The two mutants fight side by side, occasionally combining their abilities to perform powerful cooperative finishing moves. Despite their efforts, the Morlocks are ultimately transported away in a convoy, triggering a high-speed chase sequence.
The action then shifts dramatically as Wolverine leaps between moving vehicles in an attempt to intercept the convoy. During this sequence, players get a glimpse of Logan’s iconic Healing Factor, activated through a button-mashing mechanic that allows him to recover from significant damage while continuing the pursuit.
After making a daring jump onto the vehicle carrying the Morlocks, Wolverine absorbs heavy punishment as the gameplay demonstration reaches its conclusion. However, the presentation also teases several other notable characters who will appear throughout the game, including Sabretooth, Omega Red, Mystique, and the towering Sentinels.
The newly revealed mission also offers a clearer picture of the game's overall design philosophy. Unlike Insomniac’s open-world Spider-Man titles, Marvel’s Wolverine appears to focus on a more linear, story-driven structure. While stealth remains an option in certain situations, the emphasis is firmly placed on fast-paced action, cinematic storytelling, and Wolverine’s deadly combat abilities.
Marvel’s Wolverine is scheduled to launch on September 15, 2026, as one of Sony’s major PlayStation 5 exclusives. According to current plans, the title is expected to remain exclusive to the PlayStation platform, with no PC release anticipated.
