Sir Patrick Stewart passed away at the age of 85 at his home in Los Angeles after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease and dementia. His spokesperson and official accounts confirmed the news that he passed away surrounded by family and close loved ones.
Throughout his rather long career, Patrick left a very deep mark by portraying several industry icons. He is best known for his roles as Jean-Luc Picard in the Star Trek series and Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men franchise. That role will also be his last in Avengers: Doomsday, which is yet to be released.
Patrick Stewart undoubtedly left a deeper mark on the movie screen, but his involvement in the video game industry was far-reaching and substantial. He voiced Uriel Septim VII in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (2006), and you are surely familiar with the opening line, “I was born 87 years ago...”
He is also known for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (2010) & Lords of Shadow 2 (2014), where he took on the roles of the narrator guiding the player through chapter load screens and Zobek, a warrior of the Brotherhood of Light who accompanies Gabriel Belmont. He was given the opportunity to bring his iconic roles into the gaming format across a series of strategy and simulation games. This includes Star Trek: The Next Generation – A Final Unity (1995) and Star Trek: Armada (2000), its sequel Armada II, as well as Star Trek: Legacy (2006).
His acting career spanned nearly 70 years and did not go unnoticed in terms of accolades, earning him three Golden Globes and four Emmys. Perhaps his greatest recognition came in 2010, when Queen Elizabeth knighted him for his services to acting.
