"Five years after its reveal, the Star Wars KOTOR remake is still in development — but fans are still waiting for the first real details."

After years of silence, the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake (KOTOR) has finally received a small but meaningful update. The long-awaited RPG is still in development, according to Saber Interactive, the studio currently responsible for the project.

The confirmation came during a recent interview with Saber’s leadership, where the team acknowledged that work on the remake is continuing. Unfortunately for eager fans, that’s where the update ends — no gameplay footage, screenshots, or release window were revealed.

Still, even this short statement helps calm a growing fear among the community that the remake might have quietly disappeared.

The project was first announced during the PlayStation Showcase in 2021, instantly sparking excitement among Star Wars and RPG fans. The original Knights of the Old Republic, released in 2003 by BioWare, is widely considered one of the greatest RPGs ever made and remains one of the most memorable stories set in the Star Wars universe.

Development of the remake, however, hasn’t been smooth. Early reports suggested internal issues at the original developer Aspyr, and the project was eventually moved to Saber Interactive, which took over development.

Since then, official information has been extremely limited. The long stretch of silence led many fans to speculate that the game had stalled or even been cancelled behind the scenes.

For now, Saber’s latest confirmation at least answers the biggest question: the remake still exists and work is ongoing.

The continued development of the remake keeps hope alive for fans who have been waiting years for updates. While Saber Interactive has not shared gameplay or a release window yet, the confirmation that the project is still active suggests that the studio is committed to delivering a modern version of the beloved RPG. For now, fans will have to remain patient as they wait for the next official reveal.

What the new version actually looks like — and how ambitious the reimagining will be — remains unknown. Until the developers decide to show more, fans of the classic RPG will simply have to wait and hope the Force is still guiding this long-anticipated return.
