The Kingdom Come studio is now making an RPG set in Tolkien’s Middle-earth. There were already rumors about this before, and now it looks like they were actually true!

The rumors were apparently true, the studio behind Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is indeed working on a new RPG project. This new RPG game will be set in Tolkien’s Middle-earth universe, and the project is being made through collaboration with the owners of the LOTR license.
This of course immediately attracted the attention of RPG and LOTR fans.

For now, we only know that the project is still in an early phase, and there is still no gameplay reveal or concrete details. It has not been confirmed which period of Middle-earth history the game will cover, whether it will follow famous characters, how connected it will be to the movies, nothing.
The studio is known for realism, immersive RPG systems, and a slower grounded approach. Many fans are already expecting a more realistic LOTR RPG than previous games.

Fans are mostly very hyped about this, especially praising the combination of Kingdom Come RPG design and Tolkien worldbuilding. Some are even hoping for a massive open world, a detailed roleplay system, and a more serious tone. But there are also some concerns, mainly that the license could limit the game’s creativity and that the project could become a generic fantasy RPG.
People simply want an LOTR RPG that feels immersive and not just cinematic.

The gaming industry is obviously still aggressively using major fantasy licenses, and Middle-earth remains one of the strongest fantasy franchises in gaming. Choosing the Kingdom Come studio suggests a focus on immersion, roleplay, and world realism more than pure action spectacle.
This could become one of the more serious and grounded LOTR RPGs.

The Kingdom Come studio is making a Middle-earth RPG, and fans are immediately very interested.
A grounded and immersive approach is expected.

The project carries massive expectations because of the LOTR license.
