Huge Xbox rebrand, it's becoming more than just a console

Microsoft has started to slowly change the way Xbox presents itself as a brand, focusing less on the console itself, and more on Xbox as an entire gaming ecosystem.

Xbox has started to get tired of being just another console under the TV.
Now it wants to become something much bigger, newer, and different.
It has started focusing on becoming a platform, service, gaming ecosystem, as well as a gaming brand that exists everywhere in the world; PC, cloud, handheld devices, and even other platforms are becoming part of the Xbox identity.

A lot of things are changing; for example, Microsoft is increasingly using Xbox PC, Xbox app, Xbox Play Anywhere, and cloud gaming marketing instead of the classic "buy an Xbox console" approach.
Even when they talk about the games themselves, the focus is now more on accessibility, ecosystem, subscription models, and playing anywhere. All of that has now gained much higher importance than the hardware itself.

This shows that Microsoft probably sees the future of Xbox more as a gaming service and platform rather than a traditional console war strategy.
Game Pass is practically the center of this entire Xbox strategy.

Microsoft is trying to expand Xbox beyond the console, attract PC players, and strengthen cloud gaming as a whole.
They are literally trying to create Netflix just for gaming.
Their goal is for Xbox to exist everywhere, not just on one regular machine.

This change comes after weaker Xbox Series sales compared to their competitor PlayStation, a huge focus on Game Pass, the Activision Blizzard acquisition, and the stronger PC and cloud market.
It increasingly feels like Microsoft does not want to rely only on console sales.

So in short; Microsoft is trying to turn Xbox into a complete gaming ecosystem, with the focus shifting toward consoles, services, and accessibility.

But they risk losing the clear Xbox identity as a classic gaming console.
