Although it is now official that the sequel is in active development, it wouldn't be in the least bit surprising even if it weren't official, because by late 2025—less than 3 years after entering the market—Hogwarts Legacy reached an incredible 40 million copies sold, making it one of the top 25 best-selling games of all time.
However, that figure becomes even larger, meaning the player count is higher still, as the aforementioned number only represents players who purchased the game. To that, we must add those who played it via subscription services (it was available on PS Plus Extra) and those who picked it up on the Epic Games Store, where it was given away completely free of charge on two separate occasions.
In its recent financial report, the studio stated that the second installment is in active development. Naturally, that report provided no information regarding what the game might look like, which quarter it is scheduled for release, or anything similar—we only know that it will represent the company's primary focus in the coming period. Interestingly, it is also noted that the sequel is expected to contribute significantly to WB's revenue.
"We expect games to contribute more significantly to the profitability of this segment in the future as our portfolio expands, including the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy," the report states.
