New game from the Heroes of Might and Magic series, Olden Era, has already covered all its development costs. AND THAT’S LITERALLY RIGHT AFTER RELEASE!

The game first launched in early access, with around 250,000 copies sold on day one.
Within 24 hours, it covered its development costs. At the same time, tens of thousands of players were online, and they’re satisfied. It even holds around 90% positive reviews.

This is a HUGE SUCCESS for a strategy, aka niche genre.
Especially since this isn’t some AAA giant project, but a regular studio and a regular game.
The game hit nostalgia combined with gameplay and community hype. Fans were literally waiting for something like this for years, and when it dropped, of course they bought it immediately.

The Heroes of Might and Magic series is an OG strategy franchise from the 90s,
and it hasn’t had any proper new installment for a long time. This is the first serious comeback after more than a decade.
The dev team isn’t some mega AAA studio, so this makes it an even bigger success for them.
Early access means the game still isn’t the final version, but it’s already making money! Imagine how much it’ll earn once the full release actually drops.

This shows that even old franchises still have a loyal audience. It’s also proof that you don’t need an AAA budget to be profitable.
And more importantly, it gives developers security to continue development without financial pressure.

250k sales, literally instantly. Budget covered in just 1 day, with a strong start and lots of positive reviews.

This is literally a dream scenario for developers, and we can all assume they feel proud of themselves because of this.
The game is basically already successful before it’s even finished.
