“It looks like there's never enough Guild Wars. ArenaNet and NCSoft have announced a Guild Wars card game, because apparently Guild Wars 3 wasn't enough for them.”

It looks like there's never enough Guild Wars. ArenaNet and NCSoft have announced a Guild Wars card game, because apparently Guild Wars 3 wasn't enough for them.

Just as fans were recovering from the legendary announcement of Guild Wars 3, another surprise arrived. NCSoft officially revealed Mistbound: Guild Wars Card Game. It is a digital card game set in the Guild Wars universe.

Many fans had been speculating over the past few weeks that the mysterious "Mistbound" project might be connected to the Guild Wars franchise. And it turns out they were right indeed... But probably not in the way they expected.

Mistbound is a competitive digital card game that uses characters, abilities, and the world of the Guild Wars universe. According to information shared with the community, the game will enter beta later this year in China, with Bilibili serving as the publisher. ArenaNet also participated as a consultant to help preserve the lore and identity of the series, but it is not the main development team behind the project.

Reactions have been, to put it mildly; MIXED!

While many fans are happy to get another way to explore the Guild Wars universe, others have remained indifferent or even skeptical. Across the internet, it's common to see comments from people disappointed that it's a card game, while others express concerns about potential monetization and the fact that the project is not being developed directly by ArenaNet. Still, there are players who believe the game could find its audience if the gameplay ends up being strong enough.

2026 is definitely turning into one of the biggest years ever for Guild Wars fans. Following the announcement of Guild Wars 3, Mistbound, a digital card game set in the same universe, is now on the way as well.

Whether it becomes the next big card game hit or simply an interesting spin-off of a legendary franchise remains to be seen.

One thing is certain though; NCSoft is currently trying to expand Guild Wars across more fronts than ever before.
