"ArenaNet has officially revealed Guild Wars 3, a new MMORPG featuring action combat, exploration, and co-op play, with a beta planned for Fall 2027."

ArenaNet has officially lifted the curtain on Guild Wars 3, the next major entry in its long-running MMORPG franchise. Revealed during Summer Game Fest 2026, the new game promises a fresh take on the genre with action-oriented combat, extensive character customization, and a strong emphasis on exploration and movement.

The debut trailer introduced players to the Vaelwarden, a new protagonist who traverses the world alongside a wolf-like mount. Footage showcased dynamic movement mechanics, including climbing steep terrain and navigating vast natural environments, hinting at a world designed around freedom of exploration.

Guild Wars 3 is set in Orr, a region of Tyria, and takes place roughly 1,000 years before the events of the original Guild Wars. The story focuses on protecting nature and spiritual forces while navigating conflicts between powerful guilds competing for influence. New magical concepts, including Vael Spirits and the mysterious Seekers, play a central role in connecting players to the world and its ancient powers.

ArenaNet is introducing a combat system built around momentum-based action, allowing players to chain movement and attacks together more fluidly. Character progression will feature branching skill paths and deep customization options, while the game is being developed with both traditional keyboard-and-mouse controls and gamepad support in mind.

The reveal also suggested that players will be able to adventure in groups of up to four, offering cooperative gameplay while exploring the game's expansive world.

Speaking about the project, studio head Colin Johanson explained that ArenaNet's goal is to evolve the MMORPG genre by creating an online world that feels immersive, responsive, rewarding, and respectful of players' time, while also fostering a welcoming community environment.

The announcement comes 14 years after the launch of Guild Wars 2, which continues to receive updates and expansions, including 2025's Visions of Eternity. Continuing a long-standing series tradition, Guild Wars 3 will not require a monthly subscription despite being a fully featured MMORPG.

ArenaNet also confirmed that Guild Wars 3 will launch on PlayStation 5 and PC, marking the franchise's first appearance on consoles. Players can already wishlist the game, while a public beta is currently scheduled to begin in Fall 2027.
