ArenaNet is making it easier than ever to experience the complete Guild Wars 2 story, with Living World Season 2 now free for everyone and later seasons included with their respective expansions.
ArenaNet has announced a major change to how players access Living World content in Guild Wars 2, removing the need to purchase individual story episodes and including the seasons with existing expansions.
The update is designed to simplify the game's content structure and make its extensive story more accessible to both new and returning players.
Over the past 14 years, Guild Wars 2 has expanded through six major expansions and five Living World seasons. While this has created an enormous amount of content, the previous purchasing system could make it difficult for newcomers to experience the full story in chronological order.
With the latest changes, ArenaNet is addressing that problem by including previously separate Living World content in expansion purchases.
Living World Season 2 is now free for everyone
One of the biggest changes is that Living World Season 2 is now completely free as part of the base Guild Wars 2 game.
Just like Living World Season 1, the second season is now available to all players who have a level 80 character, without requiring an additional purchase.
This allows players to experience the events between the conclusion of the original Guild Wars 2 personal story and the beginning of the Heart of Thorns expansion without encountering a separate paywall.
Previously, players who wanted to experience the complete narrative had to purchase these episodes separately unless they had already unlocked them.
Living World Seasons 3, 4, and 5 are now included with expansions
ArenaNet has also changed how the remaining Living World seasons are distributed.
Living World Seasons 3 and 4 are now included with the Heart of Thorns and Path of Fire expansion bundle, while Living World Season 5, also known as The Icebrood Saga, is included with End of Dragons.
Players who already own the associated expansions will automatically receive any Living World episodes they were previously missing.
This means existing players do not need to purchase the additional story content separately to complete their collections.
Individual Living World seasons and episodes are no longer available for separate purchase, as they are now either free for all players or included with the relevant expansions.
Guild Wars 2 expansion bundles have also been updated
Alongside these changes, ArenaNet has reorganized several expansion bundles to make purchasing the game more straightforward.
The updated Elder Dragon Saga bundle includes Heart of Thorns, Path of Fire, and End of Dragons, along with Living World Seasons 3, 4, and 5.
A new Astral Ward Saga bundle has also been introduced, bringing together Secrets of the Obscure, Janthir Wilds, and the latest expansion, Visions of Eternity.
Meanwhile, the updated Guild Wars 2 Complete Collection now includes all six expansions and Living World Seasons 3, 4, and 5. Since Seasons 1 and 2 are available to everyone for free, the collection provides access to all paid content released throughout the game's 14-year history.
Players can still purchase expansions individually, while Steam users can benefit from dynamic bundle pricing that accounts for content they already own.
Starter Pack improvements and automatic Gem refunds
ArenaNet has also increased the value of the Guild Wars 2 Starter Pack.
The updated package now includes a Copper-Fed Salvage-o-Matic, five Teleport to Friend devices, and two Black Lion Chest Keys.
Players who previously purchased the Starter Pack will automatically receive these additional items through in-game mail.
There is also good news for players who recently purchased Living World content.
Anyone who purchased Living World episodes after September 12, 2026, will automatically receive a gem refund equal to the value of the purchased content.
Partial gem refunds will also be issued for qualifying purchases of the Guild Wars 2 Elder Dragon Saga Complete Collection.
ArenaNet states that these refunds will be applied automatically to player accounts, without requiring a separate request.
Players who have not received their additional Starter Pack items or eligible gem refunds by October 15 are advised to contact ArenaNet Support.
With these changes, ArenaNet is making the complete Guild Wars 2 experience significantly easier to access while removing one of the more confusing aspects of the game's purchasing system.
For new and returning players, experiencing Tyria's ongoing story now requires fewer separate purchases, making it easier to follow the narrative from the original game through its most recent expansions.
