GTA VI reportedly brought Netflix more than 100,000 new US subscribers during its six-hour exclusive gameplay showcase.

When Rockstar Games finally unveiled an extensive look at the gameplay of the upcoming GTA VI last month, it was clear that the global gaming community would react strongly. The impressive presentation, outstanding voice acting, and technical polish immediately sparked excitement around the world.

What surprised many, however, was the decision to launch this major gameplay showcase exclusively on Netflix for a limited six-hour window. While many initially questioned the partnership, which reportedly cost Netflix as much as $100 million, a new analysis suggests it may have turned into one of the streaming platform’s smartest business moves yet.

According to data from Ampere Analysis, the brief six-hour exclusivity period brought Netflix more than 100,000 new subscribers in the United States alone.

That figure is particularly impressive considering how short the exclusivity window was, once again highlighting the enormous appeal and cultural influence of Grand Theft Auto across both pop culture and the wider entertainment industry.

Among Netflix’s Biggest TV and Sports Events

The scale of the success becomes even clearer when compared with Netflix’s other major subscriber drivers this year.

The exclusive GTA VI content became the third-largest driver of subscriber growth for Netflix in 2026. Only the finale of Stranger Things and the major MMA showdown between Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano generated a larger impact.

The campaign did not just attract completely new users. It also proved effective at bringing former subscribers back to the platform.

Research shows that around 5% of previously inactive Netflix subscribers in the United States decided to reactivate their accounts specifically so they could be among the first to see GTA VI in action.

The collaboration between Rockstar and Netflix therefore appears to have been a major success for both companies, surpassing the initial expectations of many industry analysts.

Opening the Door to More Major Gaming Partnerships

The success of the campaign could significantly influence how major game publishers reveal their first gameplay footage and promotional material in the future.

Business analysts believe the model could encourage Netflix to pursue similar exclusivity agreements much more aggressively going forward. There is already speculation within the industry that highly anticipated games such as The Witcher IV or The Elder Scrolls VI could eventually follow a similar approach and enter into comparable marketing partnerships.

As Rockstar continues preparing for the release of one of the most anticipated video games in history, Netflix has received a clear signal that investing in the gaming ecosystem — and in audiences hungry for exclusive information — can deliver significant returns.

And for anyone who may have missed the news over the past several months, GTA VI is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, while the PC version is expected to arrive at a later date.
