Official confirmation has arrived from Sony Santa Monica that the studio needs more time to polish the game to a level that meets fan expectations. The game was originally slated to release on February 16, 2027, so the launch has now been pushed back by three months.
Alongside the news of the launch delay, we also received confirmation that we will soon see new looks at the game, though without confirmation as to where. The new showcase will likely be part of The Game Awards or perhaps a new Sony State of Play held ahead of the official release.
God of War Laufey is the newest entry in the God of War series, where we take on the role of Kratos’s wife—a member of the giant race (Jötunn) from Jötunheim and the last protector of her people in Midgard. The story is set well before the events of God of War (2018), exploring the circumstances that led to Kratos arriving in the Norse pantheon.
Given that Kratos is not the main lead, Santa Monica’s new game has drawn quite a bit of criticism and stirred up plenty of controversy, making it an absolute priority for the studio to deliver in terms of quality. It also doesn't help that February of next year is already packed with major releases, with Fable, Metro 2039, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, and Persona 4: Revival all awaiting players.
