"Reports reveal Sony was ready to approve a Bloodborne remake by Bluepoint Games, but FromSoftware declined the project, stalling the highly anticipated revival."

Sony Interactive Entertainment was reportedly prepared to greenlight a full-scale remake of the critically acclaimed action-RPG Bloodborne, but the project was ultimately halted because the original developer, FromSoftware, declined to participate. According to internal industry reports, the pitch for the remake originated from Bluepoint Games, the studio renowned for its technical overhaul of Demon’s Souls, yet the initiative failed to move past the conceptual stage due to a lack of consensus between the two companies.

The proposal surfaced in early 2025 following the cancellation of a live-service God of War project that Bluepoint had been developing. Seeking a new high-profile title, Bluepoint leadership suggested returning to the FromSoftware catalog to give the 2015 gothic horror hit a modern facelift. While Sony’s financial analysts reportedly determined that the commercial projections for a Bloodborne remake were highly favorable, the Japanese developer behind the original title expressed a desire to keep the intellectual property untouched for the time being.

Industry analysts suggest that the decision rests heavily on the personal philosophy of FromSoftware President Hidetaka Miyazaki. Although Sony owns the Bloodborne trademark and could technically proceed with a remake using any internal studio, the company has historically maintained a deeply respectful partnership with Miyazaki. Former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida previously hinted at this dynamic, suggesting that Miyazaki views Bloodborne as a deeply personal project and may be reluctant to allow external teams to alter its specific artistic vision, even if he currently lacks the bandwidth to oversee a remake himself.

The news comes at a somber moment for fans of the franchise, as Sony recently announced the impending closure of Bluepoint Games. The Austin-based studio, which became a cornerstone of Sony’s strategy for revitalizing classic titles, reportedly struggled to find a viable path forward after several of its pitches, including the Bloodborne remake and various spin-offs, were set aside. With Bluepoint’s dissolution and FromSoftware’s focus on its own expanding portfolio, the likelihood of a return to the streets of Yharnam appears more remote than ever.

While the demand for a Bloodborne remaster or PC port remains one of the most vocal campaigns in the gaming community, this latest revelation suggests the barrier is not a lack of interest from Sony, but a delicate diplomatic balance between the publisher and its most prestigious creative partner. For now, the definitive version of the game remains locked to the PlayStation 4, as the gatekeepers of the franchise prioritize creative integrity over immediate commercial revival.
