Final Fantasy VII Revelation announced for 2027
"Square Enix has unveiled Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the final chapter of the remake trilogy, launching on all platforms in Spring 2027 worldwide."
Square Enix has officially unveiled Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the long-awaited third and final chapter of its Final Fantasy VII remake project. The game is scheduled to launch in spring 2027 and, for the first time in the trilogy, will arrive simultaneously on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, and the Epic Games Store.
Revelation serves as the conclusion to a journey that began with Final Fantasy VII Remake in 2020 and continued with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth in 2024. The final installment will bring Cloud Strife and his companions into their most dangerous battle yet as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance.
According to Square Enix, the story follows a devastated group of heroes mourning the loss of a close ally while facing the growing threat of Sephiroth, whose ambitions are pushing him closer to godlike power. With Meteor threatening to destroy the world, Cloud and his team take flight aboard the legendary airship Highwind, embarking on a desperate mission to prevent the planet’s destruction.
The reveal trailer, shown during Summer Game Fest, featured several familiar faces arriving in the nation of Wutai, while also confirming that fan-favorite characters Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind will finally be fully playable. They join Cloud, Tifa, Barret, Red XIII, Yuffie, and Cait Sith as members of the playable roster.
Square Enix describes Revelation as the largest and most ambitious world it has ever created for the remake trilogy. Players will be able to freely travel across the entire planet using the Highwind, seamlessly transitioning from airship exploration to skydiving directly into the world below. Alongside returning locations from previous games, entirely new regions such as Mideel and Wutai will be fully explorable.
Longtime fans will also be excited to see the return of the legendary Weapons, colossal creatures awakened by the planet itself as a response to Meteor's threat. While created to protect the world, these massive entities unleash destruction on everything in their path, forcing Cloud and his allies to confront them as enemies.
Another major addition is a new combat customization feature known as FITS. The system allows players to equip different outfits that alter a character’s combat style and unlock unique abilities. Inspired by classic Final Fantasy jobs, FITS gives players greater freedom to tailor their party to specific strategies and playstyles.
For example, the Warrior outfit focuses on powerful physical attacks and aggressive combat options, while the Black Mage specializes in devastating offensive magic. Combined with traditional weapon upgrades and materia customization, the system aims to provide deeper character progression and more tactical flexibility than ever before.
With a massive open world, new regions to explore, iconic summons and enemies returning, and the conclusion of Cloud’s story finally on the horizon, Final Fantasy VII Revelation is shaping up to be the biggest entry in the remake trilogy when it launches in spring 2027.
