Exodus is looking more and more like Mass Effect, now more than ever. As time goes on, it keeps resembling Mass Effect more and more.

Archetype Entertainment recently finally showcased a major gameplay presentation for Exodus at the Future Games Show. It's their sci-fi RPG. But there is one small catch... And that is that the more we see of the game, the more and more it looks like a spiritual successor to Mass Effect.

The most interesting part about all of this is that the main character, Jun Aslan, is not an elite soldier like Shepard, but is actually just an ordinary space junk scavenger who happens to possess a genetic trait that allows him to use powerful alien technology. During the gameplay reveal, we saw an upgradable gauntlet with various abilities, combat, exploration, and a city called Persepolis which appears to serve as the central hub.
But what really makes this game stand out is its concept of time dilation. A few hours for you can mean years or even decades for the people you leave behind; which is pretty realistic because the same concept exists in our universe in real life.

The comparisons to Mass Effect are not accidental; because this studio is actually made up of BioWare veterans, including people who worked on the Mass Effect series itself.

Most fan reactions can be summed up in one sentence; "This is Mass Effect and nobody will convince me otherwise!!"
And honestly, it's hard to blame people, because everything from the camera, to the dialogue and character designs, as well as the structure of the RPG systems, resembles BioWare's golden era. But the difference is that Exodus is trying to add its own original ideas such as time dilation and a much greater focus on the consequences of the passage of time.

If you miss Mass Effect, Exodus currently looks like the closest thing we're going to get in the coming years.

Of course, the inspiration is so obvious that the game will have to prove that it has its own identity. But after the gameplay showcase, it seems that Exodus could become exactly what fans of sci-fi RPGs have been waiting for for almost an entire decade!
