Epic Games is rebuilding its PC launcher to fix long-standing speed and lag issues, targeting a "fast and snappy" user experience by mid-2026.

Epic Games has officially confirmed a total reconstruction of its PC storefront, admitting that the current software architecture requires a "ground-up" rebuild to meet modern performance standards. The announcement, shared during a company update, signals a pivot toward prioritizing user experience after years of criticism regarding the launcher's sluggishness and high resource consumption.

The project, which is already underway, aims to replace the existing framework with a streamlined engine designed for speed and responsiveness. General Manager Steve Allison noted that the engineering team began dismantling the old system late last year, with the goal of delivering a "fast and snappy" interface by the middle of 2026. This technical debt has been a primary hurdle for the platform, which often struggled to maintain fluidity during high-traffic events or background updates.

In addition to the performance overhaul, the upcoming version of the launcher will integrate more robust social features, including enhanced player profiles and cross-platform communication tools. These updates are part of a broader strategy to increase engagement as the store hits record revenue milestones, with third-party game spending recently jumping to $400 million. By fixing the foundational technology, Epic hopes to finally close the usability gap between its storefront and its primary competitors.
