The gaming world has lost one of its most influential musicians... Bobby Prince, the legendary composer of DOOM, has passed away.

Sadly, the gaming world has truly lost one of its most influential musicians; Bobby Prince. The composer behind the music of the original DOOM games has passed away at the age of 81.

Bobby Prince is best known for his work on the original DOOM, where he created some of the most recognizable tracks in video game history. His metal-inspired MIDI soundtracks became an inseparable and iconic part of the identity of the entire DOOM franchise, and remain so more than three decades later.

Besides DOOM, he also worked on games such as Wolfenstein 3D, Doom II, and other classics from the golden age of PC gaming.

After news of his passing became public, social media was flooded with messages of gratitude and memories of his most famous compositions. Numerous developers, musicians, and fans highlighted how much his work shaped not only DOOM, but also the way video game music is viewed today. Many described his tracks as "the sound of childhood" and "one of the reasons they fell in love with PC gaming."

Bobby Prince leaves behind an incredibly significant legacy in the history of video games. His music helped turn DOOM into a legendary cult classic, and its influence can still be felt today, more than 30 years later.

And while Bobby Prince is no longer with us, his compositions will continue to echo through the corridors of Martian bases and the computers of gamers around the world for a very, very long time.
