DLSS 5—which caused a lot of controversy, differing opinions, and a split into two camps (those in favor and those against) when announced in March—has leaked online. This happened because a file named nvngx_dlssnr.dll was found alongside the beta version of NBA 2K27, where "nr" most likely stands for neural rendering.
Naturally, it didn't take long for the PC modding community to turn a single file into a functional tool and showcase its integration into many other games, along with how it impacts performance. Keep in mind that this is an early, work-in-progress build of DLSS itself, tested on games that Nvidia has never officially shown us.
In a YouTube video demonstrating the technology, you can see that Jessie from Control hasn't had much rest lately, and the performance hit is quite heavy—dropping from 95 FPS down to 53 FPS. Although we don't know whether DLSS 5 will be exclusive to the RTX 50xx series, it can be assumed it will be, given that the FPS hit is massive even on the flagship models of that series.
Another technical detail we know is that, at least for now, the model isn't large at all, taking up a mere 158 megabytes of space. Since the video showcases the technology in Control—a 7-year-old game—it makes you wonder how it will look on modern AAA titles. As for whether such a hit to performance is worth what you get, judge for yourself.
