Undoubtedly the biggest surprise of BlizzCon 2026 is Diablo 5, which was announced with a teaser for 2029. The story will take place about a century after the events of Diablo 4, and what makes it interesting is that this is the first game in the series set after the apocalypse. In other words, The Lord of Terror, aka Diablo—who wasn't around in the 4th installment—won and has returned.
It is quite surprising that we are seeing a new game in the series so quickly, especially considering Diablo 4 was designed as a live-service title that is still receiving new expansions and classes. On top of that, 12 years passed between Diablo 2 and 3, and almost just as long between 3 and 4. Based on the officially announced release year, roughly 6 years will pass between 4 and 5, which is nearly half that time.
Additionally, Diablo 4 will introduce The Amazon, a new class scheduled to arrive in 2027, along with the Diablo 4 Collection coming to Nintendo Switch 2.
