The new Danganronpa game, Danganronpa 2x2, has been delayed to 2027. Unfortunately, fans will have to wait just a little longer for this game.
It looks like Danganronpa fans will have to stay patient just a little while longer. Spike Chunsoft has officially confirmed that Danganronpa 2x2 has been delayed and unfortunately will not be released during 2026. The new planned release window, according to the developers, is early 2027. It's not that far away, but it's still a pretty sad situation that Danganronpa fans will have to wait even longer after so much uncertainty.
This information was announced during this year's Anime Expo 2026, where the game's producer, Shohei Sakakibara, revealed that the team needs much more time than originally expected in order to deliver the highest-quality experience possible. A specific release date has not been revealed yet.
Despite the delay of Danganronpa 2x2, the developers did make up for it a bit by showing new details about the game. It was confirmed that the game will feature two modes: Original Mode, which brings an enhanced version of the story from Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, and Slayhem Mode, a completely new story with different victims, killers, and of course, mysteries.
The community's first reactions are very mixed. Many fans were disappointed that they'll have to wait a few more months, but on the other hand, most fans say it's better to get the highest-quality game possible than some rushed edition.
There is especially a lot of interest in Slayhem Mode, since even players who already know the original story will be able to experience completely new cases and unexpected twists.
Danganronpa 2x2 will no longer be released during 2026 and has instead been pushed back to early 2027.
Although the delay disappointed fans, Spike Chunsoft says the extra development time will be used for final polishing. If the game lives up to the high expectations, the wait could end up being worth it.
