The legendary game Cyberpunk 2077 has recently sold an incredible 40 million copies! And on top of that, CD Projekt is already looking toward the near future. That is just awesome!
Once a game that was heavily criticized by fans because of one of the most problematic launches in gaming history, Cyberpunk 2077 has now achieved enormous success! CD Projekt has officially confirmed that the game has sold more than 40 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling games of all time.
To celebrate this milestone, CD Projekt co-CEO Michał Nowakowski stated that the success of Cyberpunk 2077 is "a great foundation for our upcoming projects in this universe." This doesn't only refer to Cyberpunk 2, which has already been announced, but also to the second season of the anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which is arriving later in 2026.
This number includes sales of the base game as well as the Ultimate Edition.
Fans are mostly very excited and happy about this news. On social media and the internet in general, many people are talking about how Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the best examples of how a studio can turn a disastrous launch around and transform a game into a massive success.
However, despite all of that, some players still point out that this kind of comeback should not become an excuse for releasing unfinished games again, but should remain the exception rather than the rule.
Cyberpunk 2077 has gone from one of the most controversial launches in gaming history to a game with 40 million copies sold.
For CD Projekt, this is not only a huge commercial success, but also proof that the Cyberpunk universe has a bright future—and it seems this is only the beginning of what the studio has planned for Night City.
