CDPR actually has a pretty crazy plan for the whole Witcher franchise, and that is to release 3 Witcher games within a period of 6 years!
CD Projekt Red still plans to release as many as 3 Witcher games within 6 years after the release of Witcher 4. Of course, we all know what that means now; and that is that they want a much faster pace than what we're used to from modern AAA RPGs and modern AAA studios. If this succeeds, Witcher fans would practically be getting a new major sequel every 2 years, which definitely wasn't the case before and it's not something you see every day.
Don't expect Blood and Wine 2 though. CEO Michal Nowakowski said that with such an ambitious schedule, it would be very difficult to make huge expansions for this new trilogy.
In other words; Witcher 4, Witcher 5, and Witcher 6 are currently much bigger priorities than DLCs and expansions for this studio right now.
Even with all of this good news, fans still aren't sure if this is actually realistic. Some say "Great, I'm tired of waiting 5+ years for a new sequel!" while others think the plan is way too optimistic for such a massive open-world RPG game.
Still, there is hope, not everything is so dark, and there is light. Just because there are no planned expansions doesn't mean the game will be smaller. CDPR emphasizes that the focus is on full sequels rather than spending years expanding one game like typical live-service games. The idea is that instead of getting one Witcher 4 + 2 DLCs, we would actually get a whole new trilogy in a relatively short amount of time.
CDPR wants to do something that almost no AAA studio does today, especially not ones that make such massive open-world RPGs; and that is to make three huge Witcher RPGs within six years.
This indeed sounds extremely ambitious, but if they succeed; Witcher fans could enter the most active period of the franchise since the days of the good old Witcher 3!
