Capcom took down a viral video that shows adult, that is NSFW mods from the game. We are talking about mods that change characters, for example turning them into sexualized models, and adding 18+ content into the game.

This is very much an Internet vs Company situation.

Capcom reacted because they don’t want their brand to look bad or be misrepresented. Resident Evil is a horror series after all, and it doesn’t have adult content. That’s why they don’t want to be associated with that. And because of that, they removed the video.

The video was publicly available, but that content violated the platform’s rules. Companies most often in such cases request removal to avoid problems from different sides.

Mods are generally a gray area legally. However, when those same mods become viral, companies usually decide to react.

The situation itself is very ironic considering that such mods have existed for years and Capcom mostly ignored them. But as soon as the video became popular, they reacted immediately.

Fans are divided on this.
Some say Capcom should let players do whatever they want since the game is singleplayer, while others say vulgar mods like those should not be publicly spread.

However, this is not just a situation with Capcom or Resident Evil; it is a general rule.
Companies usually tolerate mods, but they don’t tolerate when they become viral or NSFW, especially if they are directly connected to their brand.

Mods have always existed, and they always will. But if they become too popular, especially in a vulgar way; companies will come after them.
