Sony has recently shut down Dark Outlaw Games, a newly established studio led by Call of Duty veteran Jason Blundell.

The studio was founded in March 2025 but has already been closed. Very little is known about Dark Outlaw, aside from the fact that it was working on an unannounced project in its early stages of development, which has now been canceled.

While no official details about the project were ever revealed, fans speculated that the studio could have been working on a live-service shooter or a co-op experience inspired by Blundell’s work on Call of Duty Zombies. These theories were largely based on job listings and insider reports, as well as Sony’s broader push toward live-service games at the time.

Jason Blundell is best known for his work on the Call of Duty series, particularly the Zombies mode, where he played a key role in shaping its popularity. He left Treyarch in 2020. later describing his time at the studio as “awesome.”

According to a Sony representative, the decision to shut down Dark Outlaw was part of broader strategic changes, which also included staff reductions. The company expressed appreciation for the team’s efforts and contributions during development.

When Blundell first founded Dark Outlaw under Sony, he described the opportunity as a “great privilege” and showed clear enthusiasm about working with the company.

However, the studio has now been closed before it had the chance to reveal its project, marking a short-lived chapter for both Blundell and Sony.
