Believe it or not, our long-awaited Call of Duty movie will take us to the Modern Warfare universe. And Activision itself recently confirmed it.
Activision has finally confirmed the first concrete details about the long-awaited Call of Duty movie. This time, it has been confirmed that the story will be set in the Modern Warfare universe, which essentially means that audiences will see a story inspired by one of the most popular subseries in the history of the Call of Duty franchise.
These new details were revealed during Fanatics Fest, where director Peter Berg confirmed that the Call of Duty movie will take place in the world of Modern Warfare. This essentially means that the focus will most likely be on legendary characters such as Captain Price, Soap, Ghost, and Gaz, rather than the futuristic or spy-focused stories from the Call of Duty: Black Ops series.
The movie is being directed by Peter Berg, while the screenplay is being written alongside Taylor Sheridan, the creator of Yellowstone and the writer of movies such as Sicario and Hell or High Water. This legendary duo gives many fans confidence that Call of Duty could finally receive a serious movie adaptation.
Fans have mixed opinions. Some believe that Modern Warfare is the logical choice because of its popular characters and more realistic tone, while others think that Black Ops, with its Cold War setting, conspiracies, and psychological twists, would have made a more interesting movie adaptation. Because of that, PC Gamer even headlined its article by saying that this is "not the setting they would have picked."
After years of waiting, the legendary Call of Duty movie is finally taking shape. Activision has confirmed that the story will be set in the Modern Warfare universe, bringing the legendary soldiers of this subseries to the big screen for the very first time.
It remains to be seen whether this decision will meet fans' expectations, or if many will continue wishing that the first movie had been based on the Call of Duty: Black Ops series instead.
