“A fan-made Bully remake is being developed in Unreal Engine 5.8 using AI tools, with early gameplay footage and project files available on GitHub.”

Although two decades have passed since its original release, Bully continues to enjoy cult status among players worldwide. Despite Rockstar Games having repeatedly recognized it as one of its four most important and popular franchises, neither a sequel nor an official modern remake has ever materialized.

With enormous resources dedicated to the development of the Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption franchises, the story of troubled teenager Jimmy Hopkins has been pushed aside, while rumors surrounding potential remakes published by Take-Two Interactive have remained nothing more than unfulfilled hopes.

Tired of years of waiting and false expectations, the game's community has decided to take matters into its own hands. The latest ambitious fan project has attracted considerable attention on social media, offering a glimpse of what the legendary Bullworth Academy could look like with modern graphics technology.

Combining artificial intelligence with Unreal Engine 5.8

Behind this ambitious project is an X user known as @ashen_one.

The creator has begun the process of porting and completely rebuilding the game from scratch in the latest Unreal Engine 5.8, using advanced AI tools to speed up the recreation of textures and models.

The developer has shared a nearly three-minute video showcasing the project, making it clear that this is an entirely unofficial, non-commercial fan effort being developed openly.

Since the project remains a work in progress, the creator openly acknowledges that completing the entire game alone may never be possible. For that reason, all necessary files and instructions have been made available on GitHub, inviting other talented enthusiasts and developers to contribute to the experiment.

More extensive city traversal systems, daily school schedules for students, missions, and later chapters are currently outlined as possible directions for future development rather than firm promises tied to a specific completion date.

From a technical standpoint, the early Unreal Engine 5.8 version of the project already achieves approximately 45 frames per second at 1080p on Mac devices, with further optimizations expected to improve performance significantly.

Installation is not a simple one-click process and requires following the instructions provided on GitHub, which is understandable given the project's current stage of development.

Hopes for an official sequel remain after GTA VI

Community-driven projects like this demonstrate just how strong and relevant the Bully franchise remains in the gaming world.

Although Rockstar is currently focusing its resources on completing GTA VI, the studio has previously stated on several occasions that it intends to reduce the time between major game releases in the future.

For many players, this leaves the door open to the possibility that, following the launch of the next Grand Theft Auto, Rockstar might finally dedicate resources to a sequel or a full-fledged remake of the adventures at Bullworth Academy.

Until then, the enthusiasm of fans and projects like this remain the only opportunity to experience this timeless classic with a modern visual makeover.
