Blizzard updates three Diablo games simultaneously with new Warlock class
"Blizzard makes history by launching the Warlock class in Diablo 2, 4, and Immortal simultaneously, marking the first new class for Diablo 2 in 25 years."
Blizzard unveils Warlock as historic multi-game addition to Diablo franchise
In an unprecedented move for the thirty-year-old franchise, Blizzard Entertainment has announced the simultaneous introduction of the Warlock class across three separate titles: Diablo II: Resurrected, Diablo IV, and Diablo Immortal. The reveal, which took place during the Diablo 30th Anniversary Spotlight, marks the first time in the series' history that a single character class has been developed and launched across multiple generations of the franchise at once, effectively bridging the gap between its classic roots and modern live-service titles.
The Warlock’s arrival is most notable in Diablo II: Resurrected, where it serves as the first new playable hero added to the game in a quarter of a century. Launched via the "Reign of the Warlock" expansion, the class is available immediately for PC and console players. This version of the Warlock is described as an "idealist scholar" who utilizes the forbidden arts of demon-binding and soul-devouring. Mechanically, the class introduces a unique "levitation" ability, allowing players to wield heavy two-handed weapons alongside an off-hand item, a first for the original Diablo II systems.

In Diablo IV, the Warlock will debut as the second new class in the upcoming Lord of Hatred expansion, scheduled for release on April 28, 2026. While the Diablo II version focuses on scholarly demonology, the Diablo IV iteration is being branded as a "heavy metal" powerhouse defined by chains and hellfire. This version is designed to provide a thematic foil to the recently announced Paladin, offering a darker, more visceral approach to the game’s expanded skill trees and new endgame systems.
The mobile-centric Diablo Immortal is also set to receive the Warlock this summer. This iteration will feature its own dedicated origin quest and unique summoning mechanics, such as the "Soulgorger" beast, tailored for mobile gameplay. Blizzard representatives explained that the simultaneous rollout across three games is intended to showcase the "evolution" of the Warlock's lore, tracing the class's journey from its scholarly origins in the past to its more destructive forms in the current timeline of Sanctuary.
Beyond the new class, the update brings significant structural changes to the franchise’s ecosystem. Diablo II: Resurrected has officially launched on Steam and joined Xbox Game Pass for the first time, accompanied by massive quality-of-life updates including long-requested loot filters and stackable stash tabs. By delivering these updates in a single, unified "trifecta," Blizzard aims to unify its diverse player base while celebrating the enduring legacy of the action-RPG genre’s most influential series.
