In recent months, it has been a very common practice for players to voice their discontent regarding games where the impact of generative AI tools is noticed. In Battlefield's case, the whole situation arose when players noticed that on one of the in-game skins, on the shoulder where it should say "SECURITY", it actually says "SECUTY"—and if you are familiar with AI, you know that typos are among the most common mistakes.
Generally speaking, the entire Season 5 has sparked quite a bit of controversial and divided opinions among players. Typos aren't the only issues present here; we also have skins that come with five identical pistols, or an M4A1 rifle featuring 2 triggers.
DICE acknowledged their mistake, but rejected claims that AI was used in development, instead thanking the players who managed to spot the visual bugs. The entire statement can be read on Battlefield's official X account, where players are expressing the same discontent, as it shows strong indications of being written with AI itself.
"To be completely frank: Items that miss the mark like this do not reflect the quality standards you expect from us, or that we set for ourselves. We take pride in the craft of our world and our gear, and seeing visual oddities slip through is frustrating for everyone. We are currently examining our internal processes and workflows to pinpoint how these issues occurred and to see how we can tighten our quality control process going forward. Thank you for holding us to high standards.
We also want to acknowledge the conversation around the Midnight Mirage skin design with 5-Pistols. This is an intentional creative concept—a nod to over-the-top action movie tropes where an operative inexplicably has another backup weapon strapped to every spare inch of gear. That said, we understand how this could look unintentional when released alongside other cosmetic anomalies."
In the replies to the post, users are attaching screenshots from text-checking websites—determining whether something was written by AI—showing results of over 90% positive.
Battlefield 6 has been dragging out generative AI allegations since last year, though this time they are actually backed up by images that irresistibly look like it.
