“Apple celebrates the iPod’s 25th anniversary with a playable digital version of the original music player on Apple Music, complete with its iconic click wheel.”

The original iPod is celebrating its 25th anniversary, and Apple has decided to mark the milestone with a fun surprise on its Apple Music website.

Visiting music.apple.com/us/ipod opens a fully functional digital version of the first-generation music player, complete with its iconic click wheel and a large selection of 90-second music previews featuring songs from that era.

It is a fun way to revisit one of Apple’s most iconic devices of all time. The original iPod was unveiled on October 23, 2001, and went on sale on November 10 of the same year. It was available with either 5GB or 10GB of storage and connected to Mac computers via a six-pin FireWire 400 port.

Apple officially discontinued the entire iPod lineup in 2022, with the seventh-generation iPod touch being the last model in the family.
