Jack Howitzer

Jack Howitzer is one of Grand Theft Auto’s longest-running fictional media personalities: a washed-up action star, failed comeback story and walking parody of old-school Vinewood masculinity. In GTA V, Howitzer is no longer the unstoppable movie hero he once sold to the public. He is a broken celebrity trying to turn scandal, prison time and personal collapse into entertainment. His reality show follows him after release from prison, living at The Motor Motel in Blaine County while his agent attempts to rebuild a career that probably should have stayed buried. What makes Jack work as a GTA character is that he is funny for all the wrong reasons. He still talks and behaves like the violent action films of the 1980s never ended. The world has moved on, the audience has changed, and Vinewood has found newer disasters to exploit — but Jack remains trapped inside his own outdated legend. Rockstar uses him to satirize more than just action movies. Jack Howitzer is a joke about celebrity culture, failed redemption arcs, reality television and the entertainment industry’s willingness to film a breakdown if it might get ratings. His comeback is not heroic. It is uncomfortable, chaotic and exactly the kind of media circus GTA loves to mock. His fictional career is built around exaggerated war films, macho one-liners and old Vinewood excess. Titles like Evacuator and Exploder: Evacuator Part II turn him into an in-universe symbol of loud, violent, proudly ridiculous action cinema. By the time GTA V catches up with him, that image has collapsed into paranoia, ego and public disgrace. Jack is not important because he drives GTA V’s main criminal story. He matters because he gives the world texture. Los Santos and Blaine County are full of people trying to perform a version of themselves, and Jack is one of the most extreme examples: a man so committed to his old screen persona that he can no longer separate fame, violence and reality. In a series full of criminals, influencers, radio hosts and fake brands, Jack Howitzer stands out as one of Rockstar’s sharpest media parodies. He is ridiculous, unstable and outdated — but also painfully believable as a celebrity who never learned how to stop being the character that made him famous.
