About

Zhmurki (Жмурки) is an isometric action title set in Russia of the 1990s. It is based on the events of the same name movie from 2005. The title is a play on two different meanings - first one is a children game of blind man's buff, a version of tag where one person's eyes are covered. Another one is a slang term жмур, which could mean someone with their eyes closed indefinitely i.e. a dead person.

The movie is a parody of the mid-90s culture in Russia, when the country was transitioning from planned to free market economy, which led to the emergence of a new class and a lot of criminal activities. You could play as either of two major film characters - small time gangsters who are willing to do everything for their boss, who just happens to be one of such nouveau riche criminal bosses. The gameplay could be best described as an arcade shooter similar to Crimsonland and, perhaps, GTA - you have to kill baddies that spawn around the map, pick up new weapons and while the experience meter fills up select new perks. There are different objectives ranging from just exterminating everyone to destroying objects and dealing with bosses, all while set in historically accurate environments. There are 35 missions, 15 types of weapon, 70 different enemies and a licensed soundtrack.
