About

Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3 is a single-player platform game that adapts Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island from the Super Nintendo Entertainment System to the Game Boy Advance.

The game follows Yoshi and his multicolored companions as they escort Baby Mario across a series of themed worlds. Baby Mario has been separated from Baby Luigi, who has been kidnapped by Kamek and the forces of Baby Bowser. Each level tasks Yoshi with carrying Baby Mario to the goal, fending off enemies along the way and ensuring the infant is not taken by Toadies.

The gameplay emphasizes exploration and platforming. Yoshi can run, jump, and flutter in midair, and he is able to eat enemies to create eggs. These eggs can then be thrown to defeat foes, collect distant items, or activate switches and puzzles. Each stage contains multiple goals beyond reaching the finish: Yoshi must gather red coins, find hidden flowers, and keep Baby Mario safe in order to earn high completion scores.

Several transformation sequences allow Yoshi to temporarily assume different forms, including a helicopter, submarine, or mole tank, to navigate unique terrain. Boss battles appear at the end of each world, often requiring creative use of Yoshi’s abilities and the egg-throwing mechanic to succeed.

Compared to the original SNES version, this edition introduces six new secret levels, one for each world, offering additional challenges. The Game Boy Advance release also features updated sound effects and minor adjustments to level design for the handheld format.

As with the other entries in the Super Mario Advance line, the cartridge includes a separate version of Mario Bros., the classic arcade battle game where players control Mario or Luigi to defeat waves of enemies in single-screen stages. This side mode can be played solo or with others through link cable multiplayer.
