About
Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem is a single-player and multiplayer action role-playing game. Set in a dark fantasy world recovering from war and corruption, the story follows a veteran soldier who survives the destruction of their legion by a supernatural force. Gifted with extraordinary powers that blur the line between man and otherworldly being, the protagonist must carve a path through political intrigue, demonic invasions, and divine mysteries while contending with the fear and suspicion that their transformation inspires.
Gameplay is built on fast-paced hack-and-slash combat with an emphasis on flexibility rather than fixed classes. Instead of locking into a traditional archetype, players invest points into attributes and a sprawling skill tree known as the Gate of Fates, which allows characters to freely combine abilities from different branches. Skills evolve through active use and can be customized with modifiers, enabling a wide range of builds from melee-focused warriors to spellcasting glass cannons. Combat rewards mobility and timing, as enemies vary from swarms of smaller creatures to massive, heavily armed bosses with unique attack patterns.
Progression is structured around acquiring experience, gear, and resources from dungeons, quests, and large-scale battles. Equipment is randomly generated with variable stats and rarities, offering incentives to constantly seek upgrades. Crafting systems allow for reforging or enhancing items, while resource management encourages players to balance offensive and defensive strategies. The game also features a unique Apocalyptic Form mechanic, where characters temporarily transform into powerful avatars with devastating abilities that can shift the momentum of a fight. Narrative progression is delivered through voiced dialogue, scripted encounters, and lore entries scattered across the world. Choices shape how certain factions perceive the protagonist, although the main storyline remains linear.
Other features include settlement and resource management in later stages, where players rebuild a city hub and choose upgrades that grant economic or military benefits. Cooperative multiplayer allows adventurers to tackle content together, with loot instancing ensuring individual rewards. Endgame activities focus on repeatable expeditions and high-level dungeons, testing both build efficiency and player skill.
