Weird and Unfortunate Things Are Happening is a JRPG about Alicia, the search for her niece, and the cosmic horrors engulfing the town of Daybreak. The story blends light-hearted comedy with otherworldly mysteries and the need for survival.

Throughout the game, the player encounters mutants and other creatures which must be fought in a turn-based battle system using a mixture of supernatural abilities and modern, real-world objects, such as guns and chess pieces.
