About

In Wayward, the player plays a shipwrecked survivor stranded on an unknown island, possessing only a few items at hand to stave off the wilderness, starvation, and roaming wild beasts. In addition to these challenges, a specific goal is notified in the beginning of the game: find treasure. The player must rely on survival skills to create items that may help the player survive another day on the island. Permanent death is in effect, although skills learned will be carried over to the next new randomly generated environment game.

Skills may be considered the primary feature of the game, although the player only receives one random skill with each new game. Skills gradually unlock and increase with each action related to that skill. For example, if the player attempts to mine stone, the digging skill will unlock, where the expertise level is indicated by a percentage score (e.g. Digging 3.4%) in the skill window.

Another feature in the game is gathering resources and combining these resources to create items (e.g. weapons, light sources, furniture, building materials) beneficial to the player. If an appropriate number of resources is collected, a new item will appear in the inventory window under the crafting category. These resources may be gathered from natural sources or from spoils of combat, as the islands are filled with various wildlife (e.g. giant rats) and monsters (e.g. zombies) during the night.
