Voidblazers

Voidblazers is a casual shoot 'em up game for Playdate. The story follows Jyn and Echo, two space outlaws, who are captured by the Royal Order and consequently forced to assist in fighting off an alien fleet.

Players take direct control of Icarus – the spaceship that Jyn and Echo call their home – and battle 3 different fleets over the course of 25 missions. The main mechanics revolve around shooting down enemy ships while dodging incoming fire, with the occasional boss fight posing bigger challenges.

The story is told mostly through in-mission conversations between the crew. These conversations are partially randomised and affected by the items the player acquires from the shop that pops up in-between every couple of missions. This means that every playthrough is slightly different, and the player can influence how much / which conversations are shown.

After completing the main campaign, the player can start a New Game+. Starting a NG+ allows the player to keep all previously purchased items and upgrades, so that they can play through the missions again while unlocking more of the story. Additionally, a new Regal Run mode is unlocked, in which the player is challenged to survive all boss fights from the campaign in sequence, with a limited amount of lives.
