Under Night: In-Birth

This arcade-exclusive first game in the Under Night series introduces the series's core story and gameplay. It takes place in a version of contemporary Japan under attack from mysterious shadow-like creatures known as Voids during temporary events known as Hollow Nights. Only people known as In-Births who are able to survive a Void attack with their sanity intact. The game follows two rival groups of In-Births who set out to manage the Hollow Nights in different ways.

Gameplay follows in the "anime fighter" mold set by French-Bread's previous series Melty Blood. Its fast-paced gameplay features free-form combos between characters' normal attacks, including the ability to cancel heavy attacks into light attacks during a chain. It also features a "universal mechanic" feature which allows players to activate special defensive or offensive modes depending on the flow of battle.
