About

Tzar: The Burden of the Crown is a single-player and multiplayer real-time strategy (RTS) game.

In the game, you assume the role of a regional ruler in a medieval-fantasy world, seeking to expand your influence and secure your throne. Your tasks begin in a modest domain and evolve into commanding entire kingdoms, as you confront rival races and increasingly difficult challenges. The narrative context frames your rise from provincial leader to ultimate sovereign through conquest and diplomacy, though much of the story is delivered via mission briefings rather than cut-scenes.

Gameplay is rooted in traditional RTS mechanics combined with distinctive features. You gather resources such as gold, wood and stone and construct economic buildings (mines, sawmills, quarries) as well as production structures (barracks, siege-works, laboratories). Three playable races (European, Asian and Arabian) each offer unique architecture, unit sets and special units, providing variety in strategy and visual style. Units are trained, upgraded and sent into battle across large maps; the game allows for expansive base-building, army logistics and large-scale engagements. As you progress through the single-player campaign (20 missions in the original release), you unlock new technologies and units, face increasingly complex opposition and expand your territorial control.

In combat, armies clash in real time with full unit control: you can select groups, give move or attack orders, use terrain advantages and manage unit morale. Advanced buildings enable unit upgrades and elite troops; spells and special powers are also available for certain races, adding tactical depth. Multiplayer support allows head-to-head or team play, and the built-in scenario and campaign editor lets players design, modify and share custom maps, campaigns and missions.

Aside from the campaign, there are free-play and skirmish modes, and the editor tools support custom rules and scripting. Diplomacy between AI-races, map-specific objectives (such as relic collection) and emergent strategies (defensive choke-points, mobile raiding) add layers of strategic choice.
