About
Tower Song is a turn-based JRPG/strategy RPG hybrid. Players choose to play as one of several Mana Knights, recruit up to 3 more allies, customize their skills and spells with modifications and crafted equipment, and fight their way through turn-based encounters in a semi-first person 2D style. The Mana Knights journey through mysterious, seemingly timeless Towers in order to rescue old allies and prevent the Towers from swallowing the world in a surge of monsters.
Players explore several different biomes (forest, desert, caves, cities, dungeons) rendered in pixel art from a top-down perspective, giving the game a classic RPG Maker/JRPG feel. Combat encounters are not random or repeatable; players initiate combat by colliding with monster sprites wandering the game world, who disappear forever once defeated. Combat plays out over turns with both party members and enemies rendered in full 2D high definition art.
Combat turn order is pre-determined by character Initiative, a static number determined by equipment and in-battle status effects. In fact, with the exception of health and (for some characters) mana points, player stats are directly determined by their equipment and not their level. Likewise, players do not earn experience from battles but level up by completing key milestones in the main quest. Leveling up unlocks new skills, skill modifications, and items. Items are automatically replenished between battles; aside from crafting, there is no inventory management to speak of.
