About

I-Play released two games based on The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift movie license at the same time. Next to the 3d version, they also made this classic top-down racer in 2d. The story mode has hardly got a story at all: you need to travel to 7 Tokyo districts. After beating the area master at one location, you move on to the next. Each location consists of three sessions: The Call where you race for the first place against three AI-controlled cars, Show Off where you need to impress with drifts to gain enough respect to attract the attention of the area master, and Twin Battle where you need to beat the area master and gain more respect than him.

Show Off and Twin Battle require you to drift through corners. By skidding, a yellow meter in the top right corner is filled up. Once the meter is full, one of the seven boxes is filled and the meter is reset. If you manage to activate all yellow boxes, you move on to a set of green ones, a minimum requirement to get access to Twin Battles. Chain drifting also provides cash, and you gain more respect when you drift for a long time and at a high speed, while collisions deduct from your score.

After winning races, you can upgrade your car, with enhancements for acceleration, speed, brakes, tires and nitro. In the body shop, you can up your respect with a paint job, rear spoilers, decals and air scoops. The other game modes are Quick Race and Solo Runs. Solo Runs offers three additional race types: Survival Run where you constantly need to keep drifting to make your respect last, Last Man Standing (the last one after each round is out) and Time Trial.
