About
Flotia is a world of floating islands, where the only way to reach other lands is by air. The islands are powered by a naturally-occurring "anti-gravity iron", which the people of Flotia have extracted and used to power aircraft. Every 10 years, the great "Sky Cannonball" race is held, promising vast richest to the winner, and the only way to win is through mastery of a top-class aircraft.
The young boy Tigaro has just turned 13, an age at which he is granted permission to leave his island and travel the skies. He dreams of winning the Sky Cannonball, a feat which his father attempted, but who mysteriously vanished just shy of clinching victory 10 years prior, and Tigaro sets off to acquire an aircraft of his own and do what his father could not. Perhaps along the way he will even learn the truth of his father's disappearance.
The Airs is a sky-faring RPG with racing and flight-sim elements. The player directly controls the aircraft to travel between locations and during race sequences, and will encounter enemy craft which are fought in turn-based combat, while navigation on the islands is presented through a simple adventure-game style interface. The player's craft can be upgraded using winnings to increase its maneuverability and offensive capabilities, granting access to new abilities in and out of combat and improving its odds at winning the great race. Notably, there is a substantial deal of freedom in how the story unfolds, with the player's performance and popularity affecting the events that occur and ultimately the ending.
