About

Technobabylon is a single-player graphic adventure game. The story takes place in the year 2087 within the city of Newton, a sprawling metropolis controlled by an omnipresent artificial intelligence called Central. Citizens live both physically and virtually, many choosing to spend much of their time connected to Trance, a neural network that substitutes for social and professional interaction. The narrative follows three playable characters: Charlie Regis, a geneticist-turned-detective with a troubled past, Latha Sesame, an agoraphobic Trance addict who becomes embroiled in a conspiracy, and Max Lao, Regis’s partner in law enforcement. Their paths converge around a series of murders linked to illegal genetic research, placing them against powerful forces that manipulate both the virtual and physical city.

Gameplay is structured as a traditional point-and-click adventure. Players explore environments by moving the character around the screen and interacting with hotspots. Items can be examined, collected, combined, and used to solve puzzles. Each of the three protagonists has different perspectives and inventory, and their stories alternate between chapters, eventually intersecting.

Puzzle design includes both classic inventory challenges and situational logic tasks. Latha, for example, can access Trance terminals to hack into systems and alter the digital world to progress, while Regis and Lao conduct investigations in physical locations such as crime scenes, laboratories, and police headquarters. Environmental manipulation, dialogue clues, and logical deduction are core tools for solving these challenges.

Dialogue plays a central role, offering branching conversations that can alter how characters perceive one another or how situations unfold. Certain choices influence later scenes and may lead to alternate solutions to puzzles. Players can interrogate suspects, persuade allies, or conceal information, with different outcomes depending on their selections.
