Tamagotchi iD

Tamagotchi iD is a virtual pet in the Tamagotchi franchise that was the first in the series to offer downloadable items, as well as the second device with a color screen. The release coincided with the debut of the Tamagotchi anime series. Neglected creatures also no longer die in this version, but instead run away, leaving a note explaining that the player needed to take better care of them.

The big addition to this installment is the TamaTomo system, where special badges are collected by eating certain foods or using particular items; collecting all four of the badges registers a character permanently in the device and unlocks special content.

The device comes with two games built-in; one where the player had to catch pieces of clothing in order to assemble an outfit, and a slots game. Two more games were available via download. Other downloads included accessories for the Tama, and new photo backgrounds. To get online, the Tamagotchi would connect via IR to a cellphone.
