About

Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition is a remastered version of the 2002 building/RTS game Stronghold Crusader, along with its Extreme and HD edition content. The changes include:

  • remastered and redone visuals, with existing widescreen support extended to 4K Ultra HD, as well as a zooming function
  • 2 new historical campaigns and 4 "Sands of Time" skirmish trails
  • co-op trails
  • 8 new Bedouin units, and a building which trains them
  • 4 new AI lords - The Kahin, The Sentinel, The Nomad, The Jewel
  • additional visual appearances for certain Crusader and Arab units (e.g. black monk / temple guard) and buildings (e.g. church / mosque), tied to the lord choice
  • toggles in skirmish/multiplayer for Extreme features
  • larger map size limits
  • an optional new control scheme
  • added individual rally points for different unit types
  • remastered soundtrack
  • Steamworks-based multiplayer and Steam Workshop support
  • Castle and CPU Editor (separate tool, as of the 2.5 patch from 3 February 2026)
