About

Steel Armor: Blaze of War is a simulation which covers three historical conflicts in its dynamic campaigns: the First Persian Gulf War (1981), Afghanistan (1984) and the Angolan Civil War (1987). The majority of the game is classic wargaming: the player sits in front of a 2D, cell-based maps and moves units around which are presented with abstract symbols. The goal is to accumulate victory points by holding as many cells as possible - key points (especially marked cells) give more points. One turn represents about four hours and a fog of war mechanic is in place, i.e. the player only sees troops on cells which the troops can see.

When hostile troops are met, the combat results are automatically calculated except when tanks are involved. Then the game switches to a tactical view of the battlefield where the player deploys the units while taking things like formation or movement rate into consideration. Units can be assigned simple movement/attack commands, but the idea is that the player takes active control over one tank (either a Russian T-61 or an American M60A1) and the rest is controlled by the AI. Here the player either takes the role of the commander (spotting targets), gunner (shooting), loader (exterior machine gun) or driver. The roles can be switched at any time. The goal is to conquer and hold the majority of flag points on the map.
