About

Based off of the Stargate SG-1 television series, the Stargate Online Trading Card Game is a digital trading card game by Sony Online Entertainment. Stargate Online TCG requires no subscription to play, but players must purchase at least one starter deck for casual games, or a one-time "registration pack" to enable card trading or participation in tournaments. Starter decks for other characters, expansion decks, and booster packs are also available to buy.

Gameplay has two players going head-to-head over a series of missions. Each player takes a turn as the "hero," where they try to complete a quest from their deck, or as the "villain," where they try to block the hero's progress. Each player gets four character cards making up their mission team. Characters have four different skill ratings (combat, culture, science, and ingenuity), and quests have different skill requirements to complete. Players try to complete as many quests as possible during their "hero" turn.

Any of the four team cards can be assigned to missions once per turn. In their "hero" turn, players can also use a randomly-drawn hand of support or gear cards to help complete missions. The "villain" uses their randomly-drawn hand of adversary or obstacle cards to actively increase the difficulty of missions in response to the hero's actions. Gameplay goes back and forth until one player meets the victory conditions for that game.

Aside from four limited "skirmish" scenarios designed to test new decks, there are no single-player capabilities in the game. Players must compete against other players in casual or tournament games.

Stargate Online TCG partnered with Comic Images to simultaneously release a physical version of the card game alongside the digital one. Players who completed collections could send away for physical copies of their digital cards.
