Speak & Spell is an educational handheld device which allows children to play games that teach spelling and pronunciation. It's the first low-cost mass-produced consumer electronics using synthesized speech. Aside from speaking the words there's also a display that can display their spelling. The basic device comes with various activities to learn pronunciation and spelling and has one game "Mystery Word". Mystery Word is a Hangman-style word guessing game in which the game is over after seven wrong letters guessed. The clue key can be used to get a free letter.
The device comes with a word list of about 200 words and is expandable with new word lists of which multiple were released over the years:
