About

SpaceEngine is a 3D planetarium tool and space flight simulator that aims to comprehensively represent the entirety of the observable universe and astronomical objects. Currently in development, the simulation includes planets, stars, moons, asteroids, comets, galaxies, black holes, star clusters, nebulae, and more. A large portion of real documented celestial bodies are represented in the game, based on factual data. For parts of the universe that have gone unexplored, undocumented, or unobserved, the simulation fills in the gaps through procedural generation of objects using set parameters ensuring their realism.

The game has a free camera mode in which the player can visit and observe any object they would like. It also has a spaceship mode with realistic physics where the player can pilot a space shuttle and fly around the cosmos.

Every planet's landscape is rendered in detail for all the trillions of procedurally generated planets.
