Sid Meier's C.P.U. Bach is a music generation program that automatically composes and plays music in a classical style. It comes with eight preset styles: Classics, Concert, Sunrise, Sand Man, Party, Soiree, Literary, and Reverie. It also allows customization; presets can be changed to have a different mix of styles (All preludes and fugues, for example), or a different mix of instruments. It also includes five visualization styles: C.P.U. Bach in Concert (Shows the composer playing various instruments), Musical Kaleidoscope (abstract visualizations of the music), Picture Gallery, Musical Analysis (text display explaining the music), and Optical Medley (switches between the other styles).
Once the settings have been chosen, the music can start. The music is entirely created by the console, with no human control other than standard music controls (play, stop, fast forward, rewind, and next track). Music will continue until stopped by the user, with one piece played after another. Pieces can be saved for later replay. Saved pieces will always be identical, but all other music generation is random.
